A long overdue update
Been a while since i updated the old blog, but I’ve just received some great new models from Tor Gaming and the time to do something each night.
So my Vaettir are almost completely assembled and just need a bit of gap filling before i start to paint them. They are an interesting bunch of models, a little delicate, possibly too much so as I’ve found pinning is almost impossible on the arms and wings. To be fair though heavier limbs would ruin the models and i tend to pin and green stuff everything so maybe im just being picky.
The Vaettir are mounted on Terrain Geek resin bases and boy do these allow for some great poses. I stocked up on woodland bases and the logs and rocks go so well establishing the woodland glade feel im trying for.
Along with the Vaettir I got my Dystopian Wars Prussian Fleet and reinforcements. They are up next for the modeling treatment and i have plans for bases with Vallejo water effects.
Finally there’s Santa, well to be precise the Relics Britanan Santa. I had one but as my ex fell in love with the Britanan it seemed fair to let her keep him. She’s really creative so it would be great to see how she paints him up. Mine, he’s going to be dragging his sack through the snow and trees. Basecrafts should have the perfect kits for that, well i should know, i have a lot of their stuff.
As for my dwarf army, thats on hold until I move and i set up my new hobby desk.
More updates soon.

Avatars of War Beserker on Flickr.
So with my love of dwarfs, er the miniatures, not the… yeah ok moving on quickly… and my collecting a dwarf army mainly for WFB I have been looking around for alternative models to replace some of the Games Workshop stock choice. Now I thought that there wasn’t much choice out there but after Salute 2012 I was happily proved wrong. I did a bit of shopping and on arrival home noticed I was gathering a collection of various brands. So, I figured I’d look at each brand and give it a little review and chart the assembly and painting of each.
So here we have… The Avatars of War Beserker
Now he comes as part of the Beserker box set which provides you with a regiment of Beserkers, hell lets just call them what they are… Slayers. It’s a multi-part kit of a box so the possibilities are really down to your imagination. Pretty much everything is a piece, head, arms, hands, weapons, beards, hair, piercings (yes you read that right) so you’ve got no excuse to create 20 characters from the options the set gives you.
Assembly of this little guy is about as straight forward as you’d expect. Poly cement is your friend here and like most minis, depending on your pose, green stuff is going to be required for gap filling. He’s attached to a Terrain Geek base, the base for choice for my army and unlike a lot of dwarf models, he has feet to you can position him on uneven terrain easily. I pinned him as resin and plastic don’t seem to play nicely together round me and I didn’t want him breaking off mid game.
As for the dwarf characteristics, well he’s a tiny bit small compared to other minis out there but he’s proportionally pleasing so standing next to a GW dwarf he’s a good size.
A regiment of these guys is definitely going to stand out and as they are going to end up unique looking, as slayers should be I don’t mind painting them up as characters.
Overall, one of my favorite dwarf minis I have come across so far where plastic is concerned.

Maagaans base, stage one finished on Flickr.
That’s the basic undercoat and highlights done. Once Maagaan has been painted I’ll pin him to the base, gap fill under his feet and blend that into the base so he has a solid mount. Then it’ll be a case of adding grass, leaves etc and bringing it all together.
This is the first mini that I have used Vallejo paints with, both game and model colour and I must admit I am very impressed. It’s a little thinner than I am used to but being in a dropper bottle means mixing ratios are much more precise and some of the colors are outstanding. The bronze in particular and the smoke wash, I’m looking forward to expanding this range.
